This is a post to which the teenager’s students and the students who are in their early twenties can relate very well. That does not mean that this article is not relevant for other age groups. It’s absolutely relevant for all aged groups. If you are a parent then you can quickly go through this article and learn the strategies about how to boost the morale confidence of your child and help them to deal with, cope up and overcome examination failure.
This article must seem irrelevant for many of the people but it’s one of the most important and vital topics among. For some students or people, examination failure must be nothing and it’s a great choice btw but for some, it’s a life and death situation. This should not happen at all. Hence, presenting this article to bring awareness.
I am going to keep this article very short so that you can exactly get the absolute points for what you landed here. In this article, you are going to get exact 8 tips which will help you immensely to cope up with this failure.
Learn and Move On
Learning from your failures is an art and the most appreciable pat which you can give on your back. It’s the best gift which you can present to yourself.
Reflect on the points and reasons that why did you fail. What made you fail or score extremely low in the examination. Try writing down the points. Now, what’s next?
Observe those points and get ready to work on those noted points. Work harder and smarter on those points and soon you will realise that you have covered almost all your loopholes.
If you will be re-appearing for the same examination, next time your confidence level will be on the next level. Trust me and no wonder you will definitely score far better and higher than you did the previous time provided that you worked harder than the previous time and especially improved your weak segments which made you score lower marks.
There is always a second chance and much brighter hope – Remember! Hence, it’s extremely important to learn from your mistakes and move on to the next phase of your life. It’s just an examination.
Quitting should never be an option -NEVER
Quitting, giving up, retiring is the STUPIDEST thing that you can present to yourself. Always remember this is JUST an examination. Might be right now you are treating it as a life and death situation or a “do or die” situation but TRUST me, 3-5 years later you will only laugh at yourself that is why you were taking it so seriously. It was just an examination.
There are tons and tons of opportunities every day, numerous chances, infinite scopes, thousands of right moments and chances waiting for you. I can feel your pain if you are one of those who has just scored extremely low in her/his examination but trust me it’s hardly going to matter in the coming future.
Instead try to discover new opportunities, if you are planning to repeat the examination give yourself time, see where you made the mistakes, improve yourself and then re-appear.
The market is full of opportunities and new scopes. You just need to be confident and discover yourself. This one-two or few examinations CANNOT DECIDE YOUR FUTURE neither it can show your capability. You are far more than that.
Stop comparing with others
This is another mistake which you make every time. In fact, if you are a parent please do focus on this point. As a parent, you can also make this “BLUNDER” mistake.
NEVER EVER compare yourself with anybody else. Each and everyone is running their own different races, belongs from a different financial background, has his/ her own absolutely different aspirations, its complete different journey. As of today each and every individual among the approx 7.9 billion worldwide population (data as of 2021) are completely different.
Each and everybody has their own mindset, different thoughts, different intelligence, different motivation, different characteristics and different skills. There is absolutely no point in comparing yourself with others.
Everybody, I repeat EVERYBODY is different and so comparing your marks, or your criteria with others will absolutely make ZERO sense. In long term, you will realise how foolish you were when you compared yourself or your marks, skills and talents with others.
Sorry, I might sound slight rude but this point always hurts me a lot. Instead of knowing all these points we often tend to compare ourselves with others. Please DO NOT fall into this trap and if you are a good parent you should also promote your child not to adopt this strategy.
Learn that life is full of infinite opportunities
As I have mentioned earlier it might be highly possible that your age is less now hence you don’t have a wider perspective. But if you are a little bit mature you will realise and relate this point very nicely.
Life is full of “infinite” opportunities. It does not matter from what background you belong from what culture, diversity or race you belong if you are curious to learn something new, you can discover new opportunities each and every second of your life.
Our whole global connectivity has changed immensely in the past decade and it’s going to improve continuously. Learn to adapt to new strategies, explore new fields, keep doing internships as they are the best way to explore something, learning is absolutely free these days on online platforms – you just need to be curious and start exploring.
There are absolute INFINITE opportunities. This one-two, three or tons of bad scores, failed examinations can never determine your future career and growth. It’s you who hold these perspectives in your mind.
Broaden your thoughts, dive beyond the horizontal view and be willing to learn every day and discover all the possible opportunities around you rather than being a sad soul. Being sad won’t lead you anywhere in fact it will make you more stressed out and depressed.
Take a short relaxing break
In this fast-moving era, everybody has become so busy that nobody has “ME” time. Due to this everyone’s anxiety, stress levels and concerns are at peak levels. These all factors can also act as a great catalyst for your failure.
You must often see someone who gets angry very quickly, easily and very frequently. This generally happens with almost everyone these days because of the high moving fast lifestyle. You can easily conquer it by simply taking a short break just to discover yourself or going on a small vacation with your near and dear ones.
While on vacation please do not focus thinking about failures, marks, examinations or any pending request because it might disturb your mental state during your leisure time. Just opt to have a 3-4 days short break in a quarter to spend time with your family members, friends exclusively.
This way you will feel good and a bit relaxed. Once you return back you can again focus on your studies and start preparing for your next milestone.
Meditate and Be Fit
Regularly exercising, meditating and following a fitness plan and routine can immensely help you to release stress, improve your thoughts and lighten your mood immensely.
Exercising reduces blood pressure and releases endorphins into the bloodstream which increases feelings of contentedness. Stress physiologist Nathaniel Thom stated, “exercise, even a single bout of it, can have a robust prophylactic effect” against the buildup of anger.
According to psychologist Kelly Wilson in her book “Things Might Go Terribly, Horribly Wrong,” hundreds of studies have demonstrated that exercise reduces stress, depression, anxiety that is the result of frustration by burning off excess energy and releasing powerful endorphins that can help in altering mood. The same case lies with meditation.
We are very busy in our daily life but taking out 30 minutes to exercise or meditate and getting involved in fitness activities is easily possible for everyone. Which is almost equal to just 2% of your time in a day. You should at least devote this time to your mental health.
Including daily exercise, and meditation in your daily routine can actually keep your mind busy and help you to build a solid foundation in leaving and getting over your lower scores, poor performance or examination failures. It will also help you to build your confidence and improve your thought process.
Talk / Seek Counselling
Getting over your bad marks, examination failure should take a short effort and time. Reach out to support groups or counsellors who are experienced in career counselling and student mentorships.
This is a part in which you can enrol voluntarily. You can join meditation courses and Art Of Living courses as well. They are brilliant courses for mindfulness and a healthy soul.
A therapist or counsellor can be a great impartial resource to guide you and hold you accountable for creating and meeting your goals.
You can also consult a personal career counsellor according to your needs if you need counselling and want to learn better how to get over your lower scores or examination failures.
It’s also advisable that you prefer to talk or share your feelings with your close ones whom you can trust. Sharing your feelings proves a great relief and relaxing strategy. Always share your thoughts either with your supportive parents, close friends, mentors. This way you will feel relaxed and motivated.
Be a responsible and understanding parents (This point is for “PARENTS”)
This point is especially for PARENTS. You as a parent hold a great responsibility to motivate your child, help them to grow, boost their morale, support them. Learn this fact that their examination marks or failures are not going to determine their future.
If you will pressurize them they will automatically get more stressed and depressed. It’s your major responsibility to share your support, counsel them and make them understand that these types of small failures won’t hamper their future.
Be a responsible, caring and sensible parent. Your child has some capability that other kids don’t have. Each and every one is unique and they will bloom in their own unique way. Just support them, Parents!
